Be ME Center has been a godsend for my son and our family. My son only got his diagnosis of ASD earlier this year with the help of Katie & Bethany recommending a doctor who did not have a months/yearlong waitlist to see our son. And right away after he got his official diagnosis, we registered him for this program.
Before he came here, he went to a “neurotypical preschool” and it was just weekly meetings of difficulties my son was having there. He was not yet potty trained, eye contact was minimal, didn’t respond to his name, needed to be spoon-fed, he was socially & emotionally way below his age, he had sensory issues and just always sought out a lot of physical touch (hugs and cuddles) from his teachers to calm himself.
It was a battle of learning and adjusting in this unknown world of special needs we never imagined we’d have to navigate for our son. But it has only been about 8 months of my son being part of Be ME and the drastic improvements he has made is amazing. He now is potty trained (thanks so much to the Be ME staff for being diligent & helpful about it in school) and eye contact + his speaking has been so much better. He is extremely verbal and responsive to others now. Of course he still has some sensory difficulties and still needs assistance with feeding himself, but he has become 10x more independent than when he first started! We are so proud of him and greatly attribute his continued milestone achievements to this program.
Not only is the staff so supportive for our children, but the resources and additional support of Rick and other mentors & staff has allowed for us parents to also get the community we need. I personally have grown extremely close with the other moms and feel like life here is much more bearable & happy knowing I am not alone in this journey. It truly takes a village to raise a child and with Be ME Center and all the other amazing people who make this all possible for the kids and us parents, I am truly thankful and feel extremely blessed to be part of something so wonderful. I hope Be ME Center continues to thrive and be able to support so many other families out there who need it.
